The Sakan is Snow Peak's bid to bring that soothing campfire vibe to a tabletop stove. The brand is famous for its streamlined, eye-catching Japanese design, but even by their standards the Sakan is especially handsome. Constructed in high-grade stainless steel with a transparent windshield and optional pot trivet, it's built around Snow Peak's Kaen camping stove. Essentially a (very) upmarket version of the trusty spirit burners you used to take on Scout camp, this dinky cooker is designed to run off bioethanol – producing beautiful rippling flames that you wouldn't get with a traditional alcohol stove. It's also got a useful heat regulator that lets you reduce the size of the flame to conserve fuel and avoid the dreaded black pan, plus an adjustment tool so you don’t scorch your fingertips.

Snow Peak's journey began in 1958, when the founder Yukio Yamai, an accomplished mountaineer, created his own line of superior climbing gear.
