#1 Free Solo, the feature film about Alex Honnold's record-breaking ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite, California, is out now in US cinemas. While we're ridiculously stoked for it to head across the pond to our screens in the UK, we can at least read this detailed review from the Washington Post...

#2...and this hilarious round-up of the best comments on it from Brendan Leonard, aka Semi-Rad. It's more than enough to tide you over until Free Solo lands in the UK later this year.

#3 These days, Halloween has the gone the same way as Easter and Christmas - associated more with supermarket marketing campaigns than tradition or time spent with family. That's why this video, shared by our friends at Wilderness SUP, grabbed our attention - it breaks down nine ancient Halloween customs in Scotland, from marking the start of the Celtic new year to warding off evil with flaming torches.

#4 Mark Omrod, an ex-Royal Marine and triple amputee, has just done the impossible: winning gold at the Invictus Games in the 50m Breaststroke, despite having never attempted the style until 45 minutes before the event. It's an inspirational feat of human performance and a testament to the iron determination that Mark possesses.

#5 Flannel - a classic autumnal material that's as suited to hikes in the outdoors as urban wandering. Put simply, we love the stuff - it's got that hardy, built-for-a-lifetime feel to it that we can't get enough of. Wes Siler agrees; but call it a pattern at your peril.
