Human beings are not all the same size and shape. This is an incontrovertible fact, but one that a lot of outdoor gear manufacturers do not seem to have taken on board. As a result, a lot of sleeping bags seem to be designed for whippet-thin outdoorsy types who presumably have snake hips and pigeon chests. The Torchlight is different. It’s equipped with two expandable zipped panels that run from shoulders to footbox, increasing sleep space by up to 10 extra inches while the integrated PadLok™ Sleep System keeps you on your pad all night long. Need a bit more room up top, down below, or both? No problem. Just adjust the bag based on your sleeping preference. It’s ideal for backpackers looking for a mummy-style bag that offers a little added room and comfort, without skimping on technical features such as low weight and pack size, water-repellent 650FP down fill and a baffle construction designed to minimise heat loss (even when the bag is fully expanded).

Big Agnes is an independent US outdoor brand out of Steamboat Springs, Colorado – a small ski-town that we’ve never visited but which we like to imagine is full of mountain-loving, trail-hiking outdoorsy types. That would make sense, since the company makes some of the best ultralight backpacking gear around, including the award-winning Copper Spur, Tiger Wall and Fly Creek tents. It is kit that has clearly been designed by a gang of folks who love sleeping in the dirt just as much as we do here at WildBounds.

Oh, and if you’re still wondering where the heck that name Big Agnes comes from, we did try to find out. Depending on who you talk to, it’s either an affectionate tribute to a legendary truck drivin’ mountain mama, or a 12,000 foot peak in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. We kinda like the first one better.
