Short-sleeve chambray shirt, retro gas-station style

As the name suggests, this relaxed-fit shirt from Deus has serious vintage petrol station attendant vibes – the kind best teamed with Brylcreemed hair and a cig tucked behind your ear. Lightweight cotton chambray gets a heavy enzyme stone wash for soft, lived-in comfort – with classic workwear details channelling that 1950s style. Think chest patch pocket, embroidered Deus logo, and corozo nut buttons down the front. The relaxed cut makes it perfect for warm-weather wear, and we dare you not to dial up the retro by putting a roll or two on those short sleeves. Probably best not to hang around the Shell garage wearing it, or you might get someone screeching up in a station wagon, clicking their fingers and shouting 'fill 'er up!'

  • What do you get when you cross a legendary surfwear entrepreneur with a serious motorcycle addiction and a healthy disregard for tribal boundaries? Well, you get Deus ex Machina – the brand that's been proving since 2006 that there's no rule saying you can't love both the roar of a café racer and the whisper of a perfect barrel.

Founded by Dare Jennings (he of iconic surf brand Mambo), Deus started life as a custom motorbike workshop and coffee house in the Sydney suburb of Camperdown. The radical idea? Instead of shoehorning people into outdoor tribes – bikers, surfers, skaters, cyclists or whatever – why not just celebrate whatever gets you fired up? Their workshop soon transformed into a ‘run-what-you-brung’ social and creative space, known locally as the ‘Temple of Enthusiasm’.

From those early days of engine oil, freshly brewed coffee and dawn raids on the Pacific Ocean, Deus has grown into a global phenomenon. Their clothing captures that same anything-goes spirit – sun-bleached graphics that look like they've survived their fair share of backroad adventures, vintage-inspired cuts that work equally well on the beach or in the workshop, and a lived-in aesthetic that’s catnip to the adventurous. Because at the end of the day, whether you’re into one particular outdoor activity or all of them – as Deus would say, ‘it's all the same juice’.
